About

The origin of the Surya Temple of Osian, traces its history back to the 10th century AD. As its name suggests, the temple is dedicated to the Sun God, Surya. The sanctum of the temple consists of the idol of Lord Surya, along with the idols of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Durga. The ceiling of this temple is filled with images of serpents coiled around lotus flowers. An earlier temple to Lord Surya was built in the 8th century and later it merged into the complex of Sachiya Mata Temple. The temple also has an open mandap used for weddings and other ceremonial rituals, held in the temple. The structure of this temple can be compared with the Sun Temple at Ranakpur
