About

Swallow Studios Art & Craft Gallery in Annayalla, Co Monaghan is the workshop to one of Ireland most established textile artists, hand weaver Liz Christy. For over 20 years, Liz has been creating colourful hand woven scarves inspired in particular by her favourite painter, Claude Monet. What makes the studios an interesting place to visit, is that as well as seeing Liz Christy scarves, you will see them being created in the workshop. You may hear the clacking of the flying shuttle, or you may see the quiet concentration as she threads a loom. No matter what Liz is working on, she is always delighted to welcome visitors and show them around the workshop. Among her current designs, is a collection inspired by her much loved drumlin hills of County Monaghan and of course, the beautiful Bragan, the raised bog mountain in the north of the county. Very proud of her county's lace making tradition, Liz has also designed a range which is a tribute to that heritage, a woven lace using fine cottons and true Donegal wools, Celtic Tweed, the very essence of Ireland. Needless to say, the ever popular LizzyC Sheep Gift Collection is right at home in Swallow Studios.Whether you have friends and family visiting, or you're looking for a quality hand made gift from Co Monaghan, this is the perfect venue. Alongside the studio, is a well stocked gift shop, featuring the work of many of Monaghan's artists and craftspeople, including Niamh O'Connor, Roisin Duffy, Theresa Kelly, Kathleen Kerley, Erika Soden, Joe Mallon, Stuart Gibbs, King's Forge Glass, Busy Bees Ceramics and Irish Scentsations. Batik artist Louise Loughman can also be seen at work in Swallow Studios and her work is available for sale in the gift shop. This makes Swallow Studios an unmissible attraction showing much local talent under one roof. There is parking available and bus tours/large groups are welcome, but please pre-arrange. Visitors will see ongoing work, the various stages of the handweaving process, being demonstrated. Batik artist, Louise Loughman may also be available to demonstrate her work. Delighted to welcome independent visitors as well as groups.
