About

Established around 1876 as the Tan clan's ancestral temple and assembly hall, the Tan Si Chong Su Temple is said to have excellent "feng shui" (Chinese geomancy). Steeped in history, the Tan Si Chong Su was built according to Southern China architectural style.

Go back in time as you take in the graceful sweep of the curved roof ridge enhanced with upturned eaves, wooden carvings and ornamental gable eaves set in granite columns. The original decorations of the temple are very well preserved, particularly the altars, with their ancestral tablets.

From 1889 until the Japanese invasion in 1942, the temple also housed a Chinese school as well – which explains why this religious site is so significant to the local Chinese community here.
