This Greek restaurant has an inimitable formula: a seriously dynamite sunset view, stellar food and decor, and a buzzy ambience. Mariketty, the hospitable force-field behind this elegant open-air winner, has managed to tick off each of those boxes, and it's all tied together by the enviable location on the edge of a cliff high above Little Vagator Beach. Come early enough to catch the red sun fading gently into the Arabian blue, white drapes fluttering in the sea-borne wind, the scent of salt air and the sway of darkening palms down on the empty wet beach. Large traditional plates of grills, moussaka, gyros, pitta souvlaki wraps stuffed with kebabs. Vegetarian temptations that make us carnivores pause. But, I love the half-chicken on the grill: crispy joints of fork-tender meat with a rub of herbs and lemon, served with potatoes and salad. I also remember a honeyed, many-layered baklava that made perfect sense after a many-layered evening.
