About

After the matriarch had passed away, the family members had a hard time sorting out the gifts and collections of "things" that their mother had collected over her lifetime. It dawned on them that these collection and some are family heirlooms are not meant to be kept in a private room. But to present them for locals and visitors in Cagayan de Oro alike. The family thought that Cagayan de Oro needs a new museum and with their mom's professional background, Mr Nono Montalvan, the first curator of this museum and the brain who puts it all together knew that the collections will be sorted out in two collections. Kasaysayan, artifacts from the old city, and Posaka Maranao, a Muslim cultural minority collection. Gallerie Ranawari, is an open gallery for artists' who'd wanna showcase their works. Hence the Three Cultures, in one museum. The picture that shows along with this article is the Darangan. A blade-less ceremonial sword used for the enthronement of a Sultan. This piece is believed to be more than 300-years old as the researchers have noticed an Arabian character inscribed at the handle. It bears the name of the Sultan that reigned more than 300 years ago. This Museum offers the most number of Maranao Artifacts (and they are still planning to add an additional room). It is one the best museum in Cagayan de Oro in terms of presentation and collection. This is a must place for tourist to visit to.
