Tsunami

8/19 M.1 Huay Kaew Rd. Cuisines: Asian, Japanese

About

Despite Chiang Mai's abundance of Japanese restaurants, Tsunami stands out. Cheaper places tend to lack quality and freshness while shops offering comparable food often hit hard on the wallet. Considering the inherent high cost of sushi-grade seafood, and in the mountains at that, Tsunami's prices are about as low as it gets anywhere. The head chef, a friendly and charismatic guy, mastered the art of sushi making in Japan. Want something not on the menu Just ask and he'll gladly make you a custom roll or surprise you with one of his own creations. Try pairing the sushi with a bowl of Tonkatsu Ramen. Japanese Asahi beer and sake are also available. Arrive early to avoid the dinnertime rush. -Scott Johnson
