About

Ulupalakua Ranch straddles the leeward slopes of Haleakala at an elevation of 2,000 feet.  The spectacularly scenic drive through the purple jacaranda-filled towns of Kula and Keokea, which leads to the ranch, skirts cattle and horse pastures with panoramic views of Kihei and Wailea, and Kaho`olawe, Lana`i and Molokini in the distance. Renowned as a holiday spot for King Kalakaua and his family, Ulupalakua Ranch's 20,000 acres extend from the ocean to 6,000 ft elevation. Its mission statement says "it is a steward to the land, dedicated to preserving and protecting Maui's open spaces and agriculture, as well as traditional lifestyle and culture." Favorite visits on the grounds include Tedeschi Winery's tasting room, lunch in the Ranch Store and Grill, clay shooting and horseback riding.
