Vallée de l'Azergues

Civrieux d'Azergues

About

If you are traveling from Lyon to the Beaujolais hills, the Azergues valley is a beautiful place to break the journey. Along a small river, which has its source on the slopes of the Beaujolais region, there are several picturesque villages collectively known as the Golden Stone area (Pierres Dorées) because the houses are built with the local yellowish stone which characterizes the area to the north-west of Lyon. Make sure you visit Ternand, Chessy and Chatillon d'Azergues and their respective castles which protected the valley in the Middle Ages. There are hiking paths and places to fish along the banks of the river Azergues, so allow yourself a whole day in the valley to discover the villages and have a picnic along the riverbank.
