Fleischers and Elysée are wonderful for that special occasion, but most diners stop off here for roasted reindeer and other traditional Norwegian food such as locally caught fish. Also try the freshly made cakes or afternoon snacks. The dagen's menu (menu of the day) is the best food value in town. A 5-minute walk from the train station in the center, this cafeteria-style outlet is one floor above street level over a small souvenir shop and food market. Soft drinks and fruit juices are served, but no alcohol.
