Vegetarian Cafe

50 High Street, Shop 6 Cuisines: Chinese, Asian, Vegetarian

About

This restaurant is Chinese vegetarian, which means it stands out as quite different to your usual veggie place. There is a big focus on mock meats (made from tofu, gluten, or rice flour) in the Chinese vegetarian tradition and if you are the sort of vegetarian that doesn't like that, this is not your place (try Revive Cafe 2 minutes walk away on Lorne Street). If, however, you have eaten in vegetarian restaurants in Vietnam or China, you will find the food here very familiar. The dry noodles with duck or chicken are delicious, and so are the rice dishes. Very friendly owners. It's a little difficult to spot because the restaurant is actually tucked away behind a Korean place. Get yourself to the right area of the street and look out for the little green sign. Then just head in towards the back of the building.
