About

Connect with the past at the historic 1823 Mission San Francisco Solano in the heart of Sonoma wine country. Get a feel for how residents of California’s final and most northerly mission lived at the handsomely restored Mission San Francisco Solano , more commonly referred to as the Sonoma mission. The restored rustic buildings, a small and simple chapel, and grounds of olive trees and fruit-bearing prickly pear cacti evoke life here in the 1800s as much as the intention of the mission, to convert Native Americans to Christianity. Located adjacent to Sonoma’s lively town square, the mission presents the rich cultural heritage of the town—including Spanish, Mexican, and indigenous peoples. This was the last of the 21 missions settled by Spanish Franciscan monks on their trek north. Displays include a mix of artistic renderings of mission life, religious paintings, and displays of artifacts. Inside Tip: Docent-led tours are available on the hour from 11 am to 2pm, Friday through Sunday.
