About

The size of the model of Wawel Hill greatly exceeds the previous ones. It presents the current state of development, accounting for its basic elements: the Royal Castle with defensive towers, the complex of the Cathedral, the line of Gothic houses, and the post-Austrian building of the military hospital together with the 19th-century defence fortifications surrounding the entire hill. Approaching the model, we look for the oblique frieze that contains an outline of the developments in the hill, together with a description. Several most important buildings are marked here with successive numbers. The corresponding names are included in the legends on the right-hand side. The place where the model is set up in the outer courtyard, close to the tourist information point, is marked with a large dot. The text of the description in Braille is situated to the right from the legend. This time, the language versions are separated with an escutcheon with the eagle of the House of Piast: a copy of the cartouche hanging over the entrance to Wawel Cathedral, which was the coat-of-arms of the Polish state in the second half of the 14th century. The names of the most important buildings can also be found throughout the surface of the model, in the direct vicinity of the objects they denote. Wawel Hill [1] (mp3)
