Wicklow's Historic Gaol, in Wicklow Town, tells a story of crime, cruelty, exile and misery. The harshness of prison life in the 18th Century, the passion of the 1798 rebellion, the cruelty of the transportation ships and hope of a new life in Australia can all be experienced in Wicklow Gaol. This is a thought provoking attraction in Wicklow Town.The original gaol dungeon is open again for the first time in over 100 years. Dare you come and experience first hand the sights and sounds of harsh life in the dungeon Or, you could just sit in the solitude cell and feel the desperation of those that were there before you.Open all year. Winter opening hours, Monday to Saturday, 10.30am and last admission 4.30pm. Sundays 11am, with last admission 4pm. Check with gaol for details of night tours on Friday nights. Allow sixty to ninety minutes for your visit.Admission is adult €7.30, child, €4.50, student/ OAP €6. Family ticket (2 adults and up to 3 children) €19. Group (10 or more) adult €6, child €4.25. Student/OAP €5. Wheelchair access is serverley limited. Audio visual presentation and guided tours available. Language guides available.Restaurant, craft shop, café and picnic area. Car and coach parking, toilet, Bureau de change and method of payment is Visa, Mastercard, cash, cheque and Laser.
