What this area of Santiago really needed was a café serving delicious, shade-grown coffee, substantial salads and sandwiches, and hand-crafted sweets. Luckily, Soledad and Ian's café, Wonderful moved into the front space of La Sebastiana Suites. Buoyed by the success of their Lastarria location in Santiago's center, starting in March 2012, the uptown version is serving the same rich coffee, expertly crafted by a trained barista who also adorns each cup with latte art. The sweets, such as the macaroons and the flourless chocolate cake, are rich but not cloying, and the tuna melt sandwich is served on a buttery ciabatta and a hearty portion of chips made from native potatoes. The café is comfortable and airy, and frequented by the guests at the La Sebastiana Suites hotel, in addition to business people and wandering tourists looking for a bit of shade and an excellent cup of coffee. They serve bagels from Montreal Bagels, which are a big seller, particularly among the U.S. and Canada- set, and many expats visit this café for the food, coffee, and relaxed environment. This setting is a bit more polished than the downtown one, which feels a bit more bohemian, but both are well worth a visit.
