About

The 87th Cobh Carillon (Bell) Recital Season will feature a wide variety of music played on the 49-bell Cobh Carillon by the resident carillonneur and visiting guest carillonneurs from at home and abroad. The Grand Carillon of St Colman's Cathedral in Cobh is the only such instrument in the Republic, the largest in Ireland and Britain in terms of number of bells and internationally recognised as one of the finest in the world. It was cast by the master English bell-founder John Taylor of Loughborough and originally installed in 1916. A closed-circuit system enables the public to view the instrument being played, and the screen is located within the Cathedral at the base of the tower. The Carillon is best listened to outside in the environs of the Cathedral, the car park to the north of the building being an ideal location. These recitals take place every Sunday afternoon from 4.30pm to 5.30pm, from May to September.
