This international catch and release tournament attracts anglers from all over the globe. Co-hosted by the Phuket Tourist Association and Wahoo Big Game Fishing, seasonal games include marlin, wahoo, tuna, barracuda, king mackerel, giant trevally, dorado, cobia, queenfish, and rainbow runners. Prizes in the past have included $200,000 baht and a Honda Jazz. The P.I.S.T. competition is a 3 day event but unlike the Similan tournament you get to sleep in your own bed at night, being up bright and early every day for the starting gun, returning no later than 5pm each day. This makes P.I.S.T. the most "local" competition Phuket has to offer as boats rarely travel further than the Drop Off. All fish caught, apart from billfish, are submitted to the organizers who in turn use them to subsidize the final nights party, where there are nominal prizes for just about everything that can be caught. A reel good fishing comp. (excuse the pun).
