Baco

Calle Nva de Lyon, 113 Cuisines: French

About

A french Bistro bar in the middle of Providencia, with an enviable wine list, A-listers reserving tables, and way more than a smattering of the upper crust of Santiago mixed with in-the-know foreigners. The space is wood-paneled, candle-lit and warm, with no clangy plates or clickety heels walking by. Different wines are on offer daily, and they are well-selected and have generous pours. The menu is French-inspired, with a long list of appetizers including a raw salmon appetizer with lemon that's tasty. Dinner portions are fair but not gigantic, and the vegetarian lasagna is good, and people rave about the steaks. But the true star of the show is the coffee and dessert, with a wonderfully rich chocolate mousse and a baked apple dessert that are both out of this world. The service is attentive without being over the top, and if there are no tables (a common enough problem), you can try sitting at the bar. Make reservations most nights of the week to ensure you've got a comfortable place to be.
