The Peluqueria Francesa, or Boulevard Lavaud, was first founded in 1868 in what is now Barrio Yungay as just what it sounds like, a barber shop. Over time, it has changed locations on a couple of occasions, and the restaurant now sits in a giant house above the selfsame barbershop. The restaurant is steeped in history, and is filled with cases lined with antiques, from matchbooks to model cars and everything in between. All of it is for sale, the the mirrors hanging on the walls means you'll catch more than a glimpse of them while you enjoy your meal. Food is tasty, French-inspired, with strong seafood options including a ceviche platter and another platter to share with a variety of seafood and fish. The restaurant has a good wine list, nice desserts and a really lively environment (with smoking and non-smoking sections). It's perfect for afternoon tea or a late meal, but make a reservation most nights of the week to be sure to get the table of your choice. Women should be sure to use the restroom on the first floor which is hidden in a most unusual place. You'll have to ask the waiter for details.
