Ciudad Vieja

Constitucion 92 Cuisines: American

About

harkening back to the corner sandwich shop of yesteryear, Vieja Ciudad is the newest project of the owners of the wildly successful pizzería/restaurant/bar El Ciudadano in Providencia. Here in Bellavista, they serve up sandwiches. And not the wilty, string-bean filled sandwiches you can get everywhere, but sandwiches on marraqueta (french bread), pan amasado (a tougher, kneaded bread), or even croissants or pita, with fillings including various types of meat, fried hake (a white fish), and mixes of new and old flavors your grandmother would approve of. They go a little farther afield than typical Chilean selections with options such as tongue, aji de galina (a Peruvian chicken dish) and chivito, the traditional Uruguayan gut-buster. There's a sandwich with salmon flavored with ginger as well. The restaurant claims to not be influenced by gringo sandwiches or fast food, and I believe them. The restaurant serves national an international craft and mass-market beers as well as mixed drinks. You'd be hard pressed to eat this much, this flavorfully or at this price anywhere else in the restaurant bonanza that is Bellavista.
