The National Archives Building is an ancient building in Jakarta. It is on Jalan Gajah Mada. This building is the former residence of the governor general of the VOC Reinier de Klerk and built in the 18th century. In 1900, there are plans to dismantle it and build a shopping complex in its place. Bataviaasch Genootschap van Kunsten en Wetenschappen ("Batavia association for art and science"), which it established de Klerk, intervened to save him. Among other things, Genootschap donated furniture which is still visible in the building.
