Grand Café

About

This stylish, upmarket lunch cafe on the waterfront is one of the very few places in Alexandria that's directly on the water. In winter it fails to make the most of its location, and while the outdoor seating is pleasant, it actually doesn't have a view of the water itself. It's worth checking in the summer to see if the place is rearranged to make the most of where it is. The food is simple but good. On a hot day, try the chicken Caesar salad, which comes with big chunks of chicken and a creamy dressing, or a seafood pizza. In the winter, this place is probably best for dessert after filling up with meat or fish next door at the Fish Market or Tikka Grill (below). Service is relaxed (read: slow) but pleasant and professional, and the profiteroles are the stickiest, most chocolaty dessert served in Egypt.
