Izakaya Hapa

58 East Ontario Street Cuisines: Asian, Japanese

About

The owners of this River North area lounge are intent on making sure that you start your happy hour off right. "Izakaya" is the Japanese term for a landing pad of sorts, where Japanese salary men come to unwind after a long day at work. "Hapa" is slang for someone of mixed heritage. The point is that you don't have to be Japanese to love it here. The interior is inviting, especially in the wintertime, with warm red and dark wood accents. The menu offers small noodle and rice plates, as well as chicken wings, udon, and stir fry. The full bar has a good selection of top shelf liquors. Many guests go for the sake mojito that is featured on the cocktail menu. - Gina Rosemellia
