Jangchu

Behind the Chungmuro Geukdong Building Cuisines: Seafood

About

For almost 3 decades this place has been serving up their famous jang-uh gui (grilled eel) to a clamoring clientele. The spicy eel is done with special spices (including cinnamon, of all things) and you probably haven't tasted anything quite like it. You won't find much in the way of décor here -- the dining room is efficient, though more than a bit boring. Not that the diners (who all seem to work in the area) seem to mind. Look for the squat brick building with a large white sign. Although the sign is only in Korean, you can't miss the picture of a cartoon eel wearing a chef's hat.
