As per inscriptions inside the temple, the shrine was constructed in 680 AD and is dedicated to Mukteshwara. The temple was constructed in the northern style of architecture, which resulted in the blend of Dravidian and Pallava style. Another important feature of the temple is a Nataraja figure, which is carved on a stone of Rekha-Nagara Shikhara that is placed in front of Sukanasar. The ornate door frames of the mantapas and the sanctum are the prime attractions of the site.
