About

History permeates this city; this restaurant is no exception. First opened in 1848, it has had its openings and closings due to political regime changes, but since 1989, it has been open continuously and associated with the Pilvax City Hotel. The large dining room is decorated in renovated Biedermeier style with old Hungarian prints on the walls and crystal chandeliers. It is like being in your Hungarian granny's dining room, except granny did not have strolling musicians playing during a meal like they do here. Musicians play from 7 to 11pm Tuesday through Saturday. The outdoor terrace is covered, situated on a pedestrian street; it is a relaxing place to enjoy a meal, which you will do. The menu has a scarce 21 entrees, but four are vegetarian. We sampled the spinach strudel, flaky layers of pastry stuffed with spinach and cheese and a Caesar salad loaded with chicken for starters. We could have stopped here, but we went forward in the name of research with the roasted duck with letcho and filet mignon of pork stuffed with goose liver, both dishes perfectly cooked. The meal as well as the service was worthy of applause.
