Dr William Charles Winshaw, a medical doctor who emigrated to South Africa from the USA in 1900, founded Stellenbosch Farmers' Winery (SFW) in 1925. The family business grew rapidly and many household brands today, such as Grand Mousseux, Chateau Libertas and Tassenberg were created soon after the business was started. Oude Libertas is the home of SFW – one of the biggest wineries in the world. The Oude Libertas Centre comprises a wine entertainment and conference building, with wine tours, tastings and sales, in addition to an excellent restaurant and the open air amphitheater.
