Sirey Island
Koh Sirey, Phuket Town & Central
About
Visiting Sirey Island is truly a unique experience. Accessible from Phuket Town via a small pedestrian bridge, the island is home to a community of "Sea Gypsies," a name given to fishermen and their families who now live permanently on the island. There aren't any "official" attractions on the islands. The key here is to just walk around, try some seafood, watch the mangrove swamp and the wild monkeys or say hello to the local children. It's a great place to see what "real" Thailand is like, away from the fancy hotels and the well-manicured beaches. Even if you see the locals swimming, don't do the same. The waters are not clean enough for it.
