Saint Bartholomew's Hospital ,  byname  Bart's  or  Saint Bart's ,oldest hospital in  London.In the early 17th century the physician  William Harvey ,the discoverer of the nature of the circulation of blood, oversaw the treatment of patients at the hospital, which at that time had a capacity of 200 beds and a medical staff of three surgeons, an apothecary, and a number of Augustinian nuns. From 1730 to 1759 the hospital was rebuilt. The artist  William Hogarth , who was elected a governor of the institution in 1735. Its south block was replaced in 1937, and repairs were made to several areas following the air raids of World War II.
