This restaurant is Frankfurt's finest. No one expected a restaurant associated with a cabaret (Tigerpalast) to be this exceptional, but when Michelin first granted it a star in 2000, the city took notice. This basement-level dining room, which is covered in whimsical murals that might have been painted by a latter-day Jean Cocteau, has welcomed Joan Collins, Siegfried & Roy, lots of CEOs of local corporations, and most of the high-ranking ministers of the local government. Menu items are intensely cultivated and impeccably presented. Try the sea bass with a mild pepper crust with chanterelles, risotto, and baked calves' head ravioli, or the sole rolls with Périgord truffle with fried artichokes and potato foam. Further culinary acrobatics include poached German beef with a potato risotto and fried artichokes in an herb sauce. Meals in the Palastbar & Tigerbistrot are less elaborate and cheaper, served under the vaulted brick ceiling of what was built as a warehouse about a century ago. Examples include vegetarian paella in saffron sauce or breast of chicken stuffed with tomato, sage, and Parma ham, served with an eggplant mousse and potato gnocchi.
