Toma Wine Bar

Av. del Libertador 1359 Cuisines: American

About

This new bistro-style joint gives you a chance to sample the best of Argentina's wine without taking the trip to Mendoza. The front room is chic and intimate, while the back is inside a traditional Patagonian room with whitewashed walls and big windows. Don't choose your food without having a chat with the sommelier, who'll give you some tips and answer any question about his excellent wine list. Start your meal with a creative appetizer such as sweetbreads in honey and soy sauce or goat cheese grilled Provoleta paired with a glass of Syrah. For an entree, try pork with chutney and mashed sweet potatoes paired with a Tempranillo, or king crab with shrimp and saffron sauce that will pair well with a Voignier. More adventurous eaters should try the ñandú, a delicious and surprisingly tender cousin of the ostrich. The wine list ranges from big names to boutique vineyards, and you are encouraged to order by the glass, which is a real treat if you've got a few different labels and grapes you're wanting to try. If you love or want to learn more about Argentine wines, this is a great choice. On warm summer days, they open tables on a sidewalk patio.
