Tram Tram

Via dei Reti 44-46 Cuisines: Italian

About

Around the Basilica of San Lorenzo, this is a Roman dining oddity, an address rarely frequented by visitors but beloved by locals. The crowded, often hysterically busy dining rooms showcase Signora di Vittorio's robust, hearty, and flavor-filled cuisine. Don't expect professional, or even good, service. But do expect good food and fair prices. We want to rush back soon for some more of the orecchiette alla Norman, with Sicilian eggplant, tomato sauce, and ricotta salata cheese. Another dish we're definitely reordering is the veal scallops rolled around a filling of prosciutto, breadcrumbs, and cheese. We love the pappardella Tram Tram, broad noodles in tomato sauce riddled with strips of lamb and roasted sweet peppers, and the stuffed Savoy cabbage filled with an herb-flavored ground meat in a spicy tomato sauce.
