Trekroner, Flakfortet and Middelgrundsfortet are three sea fortresses constructed on islands at the entrance to the harbour of Copenhagen. Recently, many buildings within the fortresses have been restored, but still some are in miserable conditions. Flakfortet houses a sailing club, opened in 1975, which contains a restaurant and offers good view over Copenhagen. As for Middelgrundsfortet, there are today plans to create a cultural centre on the island it is on. This artificial island is the largest of its kind when it was built. A boat from Nyhavn will take you out to the fortresses.
