Warung Sobat

Kerobokan Cuisines: Asian

About

Translated literally as 'Friendly Cafe', Warung Sobat is a typical Balinese eatery business that is run by three generations of the same family. Home-cooked traditional dishes at very attractive prices are the order of the day, in complete contrast to the much hyped Kerobokan scene which is filled with upscale villa resorts and pretentious designer restaurants. At Warung Sobat, you get very simple surroundings—rickety bamboo furniture and potted palms that give off a real tropical ambience—yet the food is consistently good, and service is very quick and unfussy. Balinese and Javanese dishes are the mainstay of an ever-changing menu, with just a handful of western options to choose. These include traditional Beef Wellington and Chicken Cordon Bleu. Balinese roast duck and pork are always popular here, and for those that like it hot, there are even a few fiery Padang dishes to sample. Warung Sobat excels at fruity cocktails with a virtually endless list, and there is a fair selection of imported spirits and bottled beers. - Ray Montgomery
