About

Aine Dunne Fine Art Tapestry Weaver designs and hand weaves a wide selection of wall coverings for hotels and churches as well as individual clients. A member of the Irish Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers, Aine has participated in several annual exhibitions and produced work over the years for numerous group and individual shows. Aine’s studio is open full time during the summer months and by appointment throughout the year. Her work contains an educational aspect as Aine runs school community groups and one-to-one and group workshops from her studio. Visitors are invited to participate in a hand weaving workshop where they could learn to spin local sheep’s fleece, commission a tapestry wall hanging or simply just mosey around the studio. A visit to the workshop in Drogheda, County Louth, means experiencing the ancient craft of hand weaving demonstrated on a four shaft floor loom designed for weaving lengths of fabric and a four sided tapestry frame. These mechanisms are used for production of bespoke tapestry wall hangings. A two-hour workshop introduces the beginner to design, setting up a loom as well as the actual craft of weaving itself. To finish a small piece a four hour workshop is needed, or, at least, a series of workshops. Hand spinning workshops provide the beginner with the basics of finger spinning, drop spindle spinning and an introduction to spinning on the wheel. Four-hour workshops include all materials as well as a light lunch and may be designed around a theme to suit specific visiting groups. Aine can facilitate individuals and up to groups of six at her studio. Larger groups up to 26 can be facilitated in Drogheda and nearby villages.Information on other workshops that Aine facilitates with various visiting crafts people are available on her website.
