About

Following an apprenticeship as a woodcarver with Hicks Cabinet Makers of Dublin, Terry O’Brien now works from his workshop beside his home overlooking the River Boyne near Drogheda in County Louth. From here he designs and makes his range, Falling Leaves from Fallen Trees, a range of leaf-shaped cutting boards, cheese boards and bowls. Terry also designs a contemporary range of lamps, tables and occasional furniture. Fallen trees are sourced locally. They then undergo a process until the timber is sanded and moulded into various products, and finished to a high standard. All these unique items are suitable for food preparation and presentation, and are both functional and highly decorative. Inspiration is drawn from the local environment with both the river Boyne running past the workshop and local woodlands. Visitors to the workshop can see how each item is made from start to finish. There is ample parking in front of the workshop for up to 10 cars with toilet facilities. There is also a showroom on site where these unique items can be purchased. If requested, tea and coffee can be made available. Wood carving workshops are also run with information regarding upcoming dates on the website.Visiting Terry’s workshop offers an opportunity to view a working craft studio illustrating the making process with the knowledge that each item has been hand crafted on site from local timber and allows the visitor to soak up the beauty of the surrounding area encompassing the Boyne Estuary, South Louth and the greater historic Boyne Valley. The local area is rich in both natural beauty and historical interest.
