Gabriel

7 Ben Shetah St Cuisines: European, Continental, French

About

A sophisticated kosher restaurant that doesn't play games of glitz and pretentiousness, Gabriel is a great place for a hefty but very stylish meal. During the dinner hour, it's small and intimate; later it becomes more of a tapas bar and meeting place. You'll find standard and very good French-style first courses, and a fresh fish selection among the main course choices, but Gabriel's strong point is meat, from a thick filet steak served in Marsala and ginger sauce to a kosher chicken cordon bleu filled with smoked goose breast and chicken liver, served in a Dijon mustard sauce. All main courses come with a selection of side dishes; presentation is elegant, but the emphasis is also on a tasty, filling meal. Lighter luncheon fixed-price menus (house bread, plus first and main course) start at NIS 70 ($18/£8.75). Golan wines are served by the glass or decanter, and desserts vary from day to day.
