All of the bedrooms have spacious private bathrooms with power showers, direct-dial telephones, tea and coffee making facilities and hand-held hair dryers.The broad, high-ceilinged hallway is both elegant and inviting. In one corner a tall 18th century grandfather clock marks time with its comforting chime. The spacious drawing room has large windows that frame magnificent views of Mount Leinster and the western hills.Your hostess Bobbie Smith is a member of 'Euro-Toques' (the European Community of Cooks). Bobbie and her family have built an international reputation for delicious and imaginative home cooking that incorporates mainly local and organically grown produce.The lofty yet relaxing dining room at Lorum is dominated by a long, [19th century] mahogany table and an open fire in a black marble fireplace. Formal dinners here are enchanting and Bobbie's hearty breakfasts are an ideal way to prepare for the day's activities. In the nearby area there are numerous historical areas to explore including: medieval Kilkenny, New Ross where the Dunbrody, a famine ship replica built by local craftsmen, is moored and open to visitors, the Viking towns of Waterford and Wexford and the busy nearby town of Carlow. For more energetic activities there are a number of golf courses, walking trails, horse riding and fresh water fly fishing on the River Barrow and Castlecomer Lakes.
