Talented chef Daniel Forsyth and his partner, Maire Porter, are both of Cook Island descent but were trained in New Zealand. Together they make this roadside restaurant one of the top two in Rarotonga. The air-conditioned octagonal pine building may lack Polynesian charm, but the widely spaced tables provide the island's most elegant dining, and the wait staff renders excellent service. Maire's family owns the local meat importer, so you will be served only top-grade lamb and aged steaks, plus fresh local fish. I started with a delightful warm seafood salad with a lemon dressing, and loved the aged rib-eye filet with a pink peppercorn sauce. Vegetarians get at least two choices every night, perhaps a veggie risotto. You won't go wrong here or at the Tamarind House .
