In a section of The Main that is almost bristling with hipness, hurray for the well-appointed but much lower-key Café Méliès, whose decor can best be described as "space-age submarine" (there are portholes throughout). Located inside the Ex-centris film center, this café-lounge has grown into a neighborhood favorite independent of its original function as an appendage to the cinema. Certainly it can be utilized as a quick dinner before a movie, but people drop in for light or bountiful breakfasts at week's end, a snack such as risotto with four mushrooms and truffle oil, or simply an espresso or a glass of wine. Single folks will feel comfortable here. Steel, chrome, and glass define the generous space, updating the traditional bistro concept.
