About

This cafe is a classic in Santiago, and a lovely reprieve from the busy downtown atmosphere along the Alameda. It's a lovely space, installed in 1879 in the Íñiguez Palace, built by two famous architects from the Larrain family. It is the oldest restaurant in Santiago and has been visited by many greats, inlcuding Placido Domingo. It was restored between 2002 and 2004 at a cost of 500 million dollars. The cafe is just steps from the Palacio La Moneda and has elegant finishings, oldschool waiters including one, don José Santos, who has worked there for more than 50 years, don Belisario Maturana, who has been working there since 1984. There are now two additional locations, one in the Centro Cultural Palacio La Moneda and one up on Isidora Goyenechea in Las Condes Open Monday to Saturday, 10:30 AM to midnight
