About

Ty Breiz Crêperie is one more classic Montreal restaurant. This family run (since 1959) "Crêperie Bretonne" exudes Quebec country charm while serving locals some of the most savoury crepes this side of the Atlantic. Originally in a small restaurant kitty corner to the beautiful Parc Lafontaine, with only four tables, Ty Breiz has taken over the lion's share of that block-- evident from the maze of rooms the hostess will take you through on the way to your table. The restaurant could not be more casual and relaxed, as patrons happily sit at wood tables with red checked tablecloths, and one can't help but notice the ceiling which appears to be made of thousands of painted egg containers (not only are eggs a big part of crepe making, but the containers actually muffle the sound, so while there is an energetic murmur at Ty Breiz there is no deafening din which often happens at lively restaurants with tiled ceilings). So it's not the décor that brings the crowds to the Crêperie-- and there are crowds--  and as previously mentioned it is the food. The crepes are masterfully done, and fitted with the standard Brittany crepe fixings; asparagus in béchamel, herbed chicken, and the like, but Ty Breiz excels at much more than just the square crispy delectable crepes (which are also served with real maple syrup). Their French Onion soup is a meal unto itself, and can go head to head with any French restaurant in town, and the menu features many other standards of French cuisine like Frog's Legs, Coquille St. Jacques, and a dore Amandine that melts in your mouth. Believe it or not, Ty Breiz is also famous for their salads which appear to just be woven roses of Romaine, but it's the salad dressing which they proudly sell near the cash, an alchemical concoction with has more garlic than legal in some states, but of course the salad lands you on the side of pleasure, not at all too much garlic. In fact nothing is too much at Ty Breiz—it's nostalgic but not too much, the food is rich, but still healthy, the only thing you have too much of at Ty Breiz is a pleasant time.
